Air Quality Continues to Deteriorate: 21 Areas in Malaysia Record Unhealthy Levels
Air quality in several areas across Malaysia is reported to be deteriorating due to the haze affecting the country. As of now, a total of 21 areas throughout Malaysia have recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an 'Unhealthy' level.
This situation has also affected the state of Sabah, which has previously rarely been severely impacted by haze. Two monitoring stations in the state have recorded concerning readings: 153 at the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic and 133 in the state capital, Kota Kinabalu.
API readings between 101 and 200 are categorized as unhealthy. This condition can pose health risks to the public, especially for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems.
Authorities are advising the public to reduce outdoor physical activities and to wear face masks if it is necessary to be in open areas. The public is also encouraged to drink plenty of plain water to avoid dehydration during this period of poor air quality.
The situation will continue to be monitored by the Department of Environment from time to time. The public is urged to stay updated on the latest developments regarding air quality through official government channels to ensure their personal safety and health are maintained.
