Commercial Vehicle Driver Health Screening Program Sees Low Turnout
The Ministry of Transport has reported that the subsidized health screening program for commercial vehicle drivers has received a very disappointing response. Although the program was introduced to ensure road safety, the number of drivers coming forward to undergo the examination is very low.
According to Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, less than 20 percent of commercial vehicle drivers have registered to participate in this initiative. This figure is concerning to the ministry because the health status of drivers is a major factor in reducing the risk of road accidents involving heavy vehicles.
This program aims to help drivers detect health issues early, such as chronic diseases that could affect their ability to drive safely. The government provides subsidies to ease the financial burden on drivers, yet awareness regarding the importance of these screenings still needs to be improved.
The ministry is currently investigating the root causes behind this lack of participation. They plan to collaborate with transport companies and driver associations to encourage more individuals to undergo the health screening.
In conclusion, cooperation from all parties is essential to ensure the safety of road users in Malaysia. Commercial vehicle drivers are urged to take this opportunity for the sake of their own health and public safety.
