Malaysia Targets RM23 Billion Economic Growth Through Artificial Intelligence
Malaysia has now set a major target to increase the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by US$5 billion, or approximately RM23 billion, annually through the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, stated that this initiative is part of the government's efforts to accelerate the nation's digital transformation.
This move aims to position Malaysia as a competitive regional technology hub. By integrating AI into various industrial sectors, the government is confident that worker productivity and business efficiency will increase more drastically. Key focus areas include the manufacturing, services, and finance sectors, which serve as the backbone of the national economy.
To achieve this goal, the government will work closely with international technology giants to train the local workforce. Reskilling and upskilling programs will be introduced to ensure Malaysians are prepared to face a changing job landscape driven by automation and AI technology.
In addition, the government will also ensure that the nation's digital infrastructure is strengthened to support a sustainable AI ecosystem. Investments in data centers and high-speed internet networks are a priority so that major companies continue to choose Malaysia as their primary investment destination.
Overall, this economic target demonstrates Malaysia's serious commitment to remaining relevant in the global digital economy. If this effort succeeds, it will not only increase national income but also create more high-quality job opportunities for the younger generation in the future.
