Asthma Cases Rise Sharply Due to Haze in Malaysia
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has reported a significant increase in asthma cases nationwide recently. This increase coincides with the haze conditions affecting several areas in Malaysia, causing air quality to deteriorate to worrying levels.
According to the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, statistics show a 259 percent surge in asthma cases within the latest epidemiological week. These figures provide a clear picture of the direct impact of air pollution on the respiratory health of the local population.
The ministry advises the public, especially high-risk groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic lung conditions, to be more cautious. The public is encouraged to reduce outdoor activities and always wear a face mask when in areas affected by the haze.
In addition, the public is reminded to ensure adequate water intake and to constantly monitor air quality through official government applications. If experiencing symptoms such as difficulty breathing or persistent coughing, residents are urged to seek immediate treatment at nearby clinics or hospitals.
The MOH will continue to monitor this situation from time to time to ensure that appropriate preventive measures can be taken. Cooperation from all parties is essential to reduce the risk of more serious health issues resulting from these uncertain weather conditions.
