Haze Emergency Declared in Serian, Sarawak
The Malaysian government has declared a haze emergency in the Serian district of Sarawak following a deterioration in air quality. This decision was made after the level of air pollution in the area reached a point that poses a danger to public health and safety.
According to the authorities, the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Serian have shown a significant increase over the past few days. This situation is caused by transboundary haze, which has resulted in very limited visibility in the area.
As a safety measure, the government has advised residents in Serian to reduce outdoor activities. Schools in the affected areas may also be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of students from the adverse effects of the haze.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is currently monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis. They are working with relevant departments to provide health assistance and ensure that face mask supplies are sufficient for residents in need.
The public is advised to stay updated with the latest developments from official news channels. Authorities also remind the public not to engage in open burning to prevent the haze situation from worsening.
