Proposal for 30 percent women's quota in politics requires support from party leaders
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, emphasized that the proposal to set a 30 percent quota for women in politics requires the agreement of all political party leaders in Malaysia.
According to her, support from the top leadership of parties is the most important step before this proposal can be brought to the next level. Without a consensus from the leadership, efforts to ensure greater women's participation in the country's democratic system will be difficult to implement effectively.
Nancy explained that this step aims to empower women's voices in making important decisions for the country. She hopes that all political parties will consider this proposal seriously in order to achieve a more equitable gender balance in the nation's political arena.
At present, further discussions are being held to ensure that the proposal receives due attention. The ministry is committed to continuing to fight for women's rights so that they have equal opportunities to serve as leaders at both the national and local levels.
Overall, the success of this initiative depends on close cooperation between the government and political party leaders. The public is now awaiting further developments on whether this proposal will be officially accepted by all parties involved.
