Malaysia Sets New Standards for School Closures Due to Haze
The Ministry of Education Malaysia has announced new guidelines to address the haze problem that frequently affects the country. This step was taken to ensure the safety and health of students and school staff are always maintained when air quality deteriorates.
According to these new regulations, schools in areas recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading exceeding 200 are required to cease operations immediately. This decision was made to prevent students from being exposed to unhealthy air for prolonged periods.
In addition to school closures, the ministry has also established procedures for outdoor activities. All physical activities outside the classroom must be stopped immediately when the API reading reaches a concerning level. This measure aims to reduce the risk of respiratory problems among students.
Parents and schools are requested to constantly monitor air quality developments through official government channels. Cooperation from all parties is crucial to ensure that the learning process can continue safely, even in challenging weather conditions.
Overall, the establishment of these new standards demonstrates the government's commitment to protecting public health. It is hoped that with these clearer guidelines, school management will be able to make faster and more accurate decisions for the welfare of students throughout Malaysia.
