Air Quality Deteriorates: 34 Stations Record Unhealthy Readings
Malaysia is currently facing an increasingly worrying transboundary haze problem. Based on the latest reports, air quality in many areas across the country has deteriorated to levels that are hazardous to public health.
Data from air quality monitoring stations show that 34 out of 68 stations throughout Malaysia have recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an unhealthy level. Even more concerning is that not a single monitoring station is currently recording air quality at a good level.
This situation stems from the haze phenomenon brought in from abroad, which has become trapped in Malaysia's airspace. The presence of these fine particles in the air can cause health problems such as coughing, sore throats, and difficulty breathing, especially for children and the elderly.
Health authorities are advising the public to reduce outdoor activities to avoid prolonged exposure to polluted air. Additionally, the public is encouraged to wear face masks when outdoors and ensure sufficient daily intake of plain water.
This situation will continue to be monitored by the relevant ministries from time to time. The public is urged to stay alert to official announcements regarding air quality in their respective areas and to follow the recommended safety measures to protect their health and that of their families.
