Haze-Related Illness Cases Rise in Malaysia
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has reported an increase in health-related illness cases following the haze conditions affecting several areas in the country. The public is advised to be more cautious to avoid more serious health problems.
Based on data from 78 health facilities nationwide, cases of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) have recorded an increase of 10.43 percent. In addition, cases of conjunctivitis or eye inflammation also showed a significant rise of 26.47 percent during the same period.
However, there is a different trend for asthma cases. Statistics show a decrease of 13.64 percent for asthma patients seeking treatment at the involved health facilities, compared to the previous period.
The ministry continues to monitor the air quality situation from time to time. The public is advised to reduce outdoor activities, wear face masks if necessary, and drink sufficient plain water to maintain health throughout this haze period.
