Malaysia Needs to Shift to Value-Based Healthcare
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad emphasized that Malaysia needs to transform the country's healthcare system toward a more sustainable model. He stated that the primary focus must now shift from merely the quantity of services to the quality of health outcomes received by patients.
According to him, the existing health system needs to be improved to ensure that medical costs remain sustainable in the long term. This transition aims to prioritize treatment effectiveness and patient well-being over simply increasing the number of patients treated in hospitals.
This value-based approach emphasizes the importance of positive treatment outcomes for every ringgit spent. In this way, government financial resources can be managed more efficiently, thereby ensuring that the public has access to high-quality and effective treatment.
This step is part of the Ministry of Health's ongoing efforts to modernize the national health system. The ministry hopes that this change will be able to address the challenges of rising medical costs and ensure that Malaysia's health system remains relevant in the future.
