Consumption of 59,000 lines of cocaine daily in Rotterdam!
An analysis of wastewater conducted by the municipality of Rotterdam showed that the city's residents consume about 59,000 lines of cocaine daily. This study indicates a gradual decline in consumption, as the amount two years ago was 70,000 lines per day, which then decreased last year to 63,000 lines.
This analysis is part of a long-term drug prevention campaign launched by Rotterdam, which entered a new phase last month. QR codes have been distributed in several locations around the city to draw attention to the campaign and the phenomenon of drug use. By scanning the code, interested individuals can track the drug trafficking route from South America, along with information about its impact on the city and the associated health risks, as well as links to support and assistance services.
Tens of thousands of kilograms of cocaine are seized annually at the Port of Rotterdam, and improvements in detection methods have led to a decrease in the quantities seized over the past two years.
As for the use of ecstasy, about 3,100 pills are consumed daily in Rotterdam, which is a higher number than last year when the figure was around 2,500 pills per day, but it remains much lower than the consumption two years ago, which was 5,000 pills per day.
Cocaine use in Rotterdam remains slightly lower than in Amsterdam, but it is higher than in Utrecht and Eindhoven. Amsterdam also records a higher rate of ecstasy consumption compared to Rotterdam.
