Claudia Sheinbaum promotes food sovereignty and the protection of native corn
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, recently visited the State of Mexico to present an ambitious national plan. The main objective of this project is to strengthen the country's "food sovereignty," ensuring that Mexico can produce the basic foods its population needs. During her speech, the president highlighted the importance of protecting national agricultural resources.
One of the most important parts of this program is direct support for native corn. The government seeks to ensure that local farmers continue to cultivate traditional seeds instead of relying on imported or genetically modified products. According to Sheinbaum, corn is not only an essential food for the Mexican diet but also a fundamental symbol of the country's culture and history.
In addition to technical announcements, the president defended her political vision before the citizens. Sheinbaum assured that her administration prioritizes the well-being of small producers and the development of the countryside. She mentioned that, although there are sectors of the opposition that criticize these measures, her government will continue working to transform the agricultural sector and eliminate external dependence.
With these actions, the federal government expects to significantly reduce imports of basic grains. Food sovereignty has become a central pillar of Sheinbaum's agenda for the coming years. It is expected that, following this launch in the State of Mexico, other states in the republic will join these initiatives to ensure that Mexican corn remains the foundation of the rural economy.
