Quiñones and Mosquera Choose to Represent Mexico and Spain Instead of Colombia
The president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Ramón Jesurún, recently confirmed important news for sports fans. Players Julián Quiñones and Cristhian Mosquera have decided not to play for the Colombian national team. Although both footballers have roots in the South American country, they have preferred to represent other nations in upcoming international competitions.
Julián Quiñones, a talented forward who has had great success in the Mexican league, chose to play for the Mexican national team. Despite the efforts of Colombian coaches to convince him, Quiñones decided to continue his path with the Mexican squad. The player has already completed his naturalization process and has expressed his desire to give back to the Aztec country everything it has given him professionally.
For his part, the young defender Cristhian Mosquera made the decision to represent Spain. Mosquera, who currently plays in the Spanish league, has been part of that country's youth national teams. Colombia's coaching staff hoped to have him for the 2026 World Cup, but the player preferred to maintain his commitment to European football, where he has developed as an athlete.
Ramón Jesurún explained that the federation always seeks the best talent for the national team. However, he also clarified that they respect the will and feelings of the footballers. In modern football, it is increasingly common for players with dual nationality to have to make these difficult decisions based on their personal history and professional development.
This situation represents a challenge for the Colombian national team, which must continue searching for new talent to strengthen its squad. The technical team will continue to observe other young players who can bring quality and commitment to the group. The main objective remains to prepare a competitive team to qualify and stand out in the next World Cup.
