Keiko Fujimori promises to respect the results in a very tight election in Peru
The presidential elections in Peru have generated great expectation throughout the country. After the vote held this Sunday, the first results show an extremely close competition between the main candidates. The current situation is one of uncertainty, as the difference in votes between both candidates is minimal.
According to projections from polling firms Ipsos Peru and Datum, there is what experts call a "technical tie." Ipsos gives 49.7% to candidate Keiko Fujimori compared to 50.3% for her opponent. On the other hand, Datum's data places the figures at 49.86% and 50.14%, respectively. These figures demonstrate that the Peruvian electorate is divided almost exactly in half.
Faced with such a close scenario, right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori has spoken publicly to address the nation. Fujimori stated that she will respect the popular will and the final results issued by the electoral authorities. With this message, the candidate seeks to convey tranquility and order at a time of high political tension for the country.
For now, Peruvian citizens and the international community are waiting for the official and final vote count. This process may take several days due to the small difference between the candidates. Transparency in the recount will be fundamental to ensuring democratic stability and social peace in Peru over the coming years.
