Milk producers in Veracruz protest lack of collection centers
In the state of Veracruz, Mexico, a group of milk producers held a significant protest in the city of Xalapa. The farmers expressed their dissatisfaction with the suspension of the federal program "Leche para el Bienestar" (Milk for Well-being). This situation has created an economic crisis for many families who depend entirely on the sale of this basic product.
During the demonstration, the producers made the decision to dump liters of milk in the streets as an act of desperation. With this action, they seek to draw the authorities' attention to the massive loss of their daily production. According to the protesters, they currently have no way to market their goods due to recent changes in government policies.
The workers' main demand is the opening of new collection centers. These facilities are fundamental because they allow small producers to deliver their milk and receive a fair payment directly. Without these spaces, the farmers lack the necessary technology to store the food, which causes the milk to spoil quickly.
In addition to the infrastructure, the protesters demand that the social support program be reactivated as soon as possible. They claim that the suspension of the service affects not only the producers but also the vulnerable communities that received the product at affordable prices. The lack of this support puts the region's economic stability at risk.
Finally, the dairy farmers of Veracruz are waiting for a clear response from state and federal authorities. They warn that if an agreement is not reached soon, protests could continue in other parts of the state. For now, the dairy sector remains in a state of uncertainty while seeking solutions to avoid further food waste.
