Banxico Launches Accounts for Micro-businesses and Maintains Interest Rates

The Bank of Mexico is introducing new tools for small businesses as inflation allows for stability in the cost of money. Additionally, workers' retirement funds show significant growth in their domestic investments.

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) has created a new category of bank account called "Level 2 Bis," focused exclusively on micro-businesses. This measure seeks to make it easier for small businesses to digitize their financial operations, recognizing that their needs are different from those of a typical household or a traditional company. With this, financial inclusion is expected to accelerate for millions of entrepreneurs in the country.

Regarding monetary policy, Banxico is expected to maintain the interest rate at 6.50% in its next decision scheduled for this Thursday. Analysts point out that the decline in inflation—the generalized increase in prices—has provided room to avoid immediate changes, although the Governing Board will act with caution depending on new economic data.

On the other hand, the Retirement Fund Administrators (Afores), which manage workers' savings, increased their investments in the Mexican stock market. As of May, these institutions managed 8.9 trillion pesos of citizens' savings, representing an increase compared to the 7.4 trillion recorded in the same period last year. This growth translates into a greater participation of workers' savings in national companies.

In fiscal matters, a report from Oxfam Mexico warns that during 2025, "tax expenditures"—money that the State stops receiving by granting tax benefits and incentives to certain taxpayers—were greater than the spending allocated to public investment. The report suggests that these incentives are draining resources that could be used for public works and services for the population.

Finally, regarding local security, a fatal accident was reported in Tizimín, Yucatán. A 19-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after crashing into a tree in the Santa Cruz neighborhood last Sunday.
