Warning of Software Errors: Problems with Medication Plans in Medical Practices

The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) has issued an urgent warning to all medical practices in Germany. There are technical problems with the software used to manage patient data. Specifically, there are errors when reading medication plans, which can lead to incorrect information.

The so-called nationwide medication plan (BMP) is an important document for patients. It lists all the medications a person needs to take. However, according to the KBV, transmission errors occur repeatedly when doctors read this plan into their computer systems. This means that the software does not transfer the data correctly.

Incorrect dosage information is particularly critical. If the system displays the wrong amount of a medication, there is a high risk to the patient's health. An incorrect dosage can lead to a therapy not working or to dangerous side effects.

The KBV is therefore calling on medical professionals to exercise particular caution. Doctors should always manually check the data after it has been read in. One must not rely on technology alone but must check whether the information in the computer matches the patient's printed plan.

Experts now hope that the manufacturers of the practice software will fix the errors quickly. Until the technical problems are resolved, careful checking by medical staff remains the most important protection for patients. Safety during treatment must always come first.
