No major wildfires despite persistent drought in the Netherlands
Despite the persistent drought in the Netherlands, no major wildfires have broken out in recent weeks. This was reported by the fire department in Arnhem. Although nature is very dry in many places, the situation has remained under control for the time being.
The fire department is closely monitoring conditions in nature. Drought normally causes forests and heathlands to catch fire more easily. Due to the absence of large fires, damage to nature has remained limited so far.
Nevertheless, the fire department remains cautious. The risk of fires remains present as long as it does not rain. Citizens are therefore urged to be careful in nature reserves and not to leave behind flammable materials, such as cigarette butts or glass.
Authorities continue to monitor weather forecasts. Should the drought persist, additional measures may be taken to protect nature reserves. For now, the situation in the Netherlands is stable.
