Videoland Acquires Viaplay: Major Changes for Dutch Streamers
There is big news for fans of sports and streaming in the Netherlands. Videoland, the well-known Dutch streaming service from DPG Media, is taking over Viaplay's operations in the Netherlands. For an amount of approximately 142 million euros, Videoland will acquire the rights to major sports. This means that in the future, subscribers will be able to watch both well-known Dutch series and international top-tier sports in one place.
This acquisition significantly expands Videoland's offering. Sports enthusiasts will soon be able to watch Formula 1 and football matches from the British Premier League via the platform. DPG Media has the ambition to make Videoland the largest and most important streaming platform in the Netherlands. For many viewers, this is a major change, as they previously often needed different subscriptions for sports and entertainment.
It is not only Videoland that is changing; Netflix is also introducing new rules. From now on, the streaming service will require users in the Netherlands and Belgium to use a unique email address for each profile. This is a new step by Netflix to regulate account sharing outside of a single household. Meanwhile, there are also visitors from Hollywood: famous actors Tom Holland and Zendaya are currently in the Netherlands to promote the new Spider-Man film.
In addition to the news about streaming, there is also a lot happening in the field of live entertainment. American singer Bruno Mars is giving a concert at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam. Fans can expect a long show, as the setlist consists of no fewer than 28 songs, including hits like '24K Magic' and 'Treasure'. There is also success in the theater; the Dutch version of the play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' is receiving very positive reviews from critics.
All in all, it is a busy week for the Dutch media and entertainment sector. The acquisition by Videoland shows that the market for streaming services is in constant flux. Whether you love fast cars, exciting films, or live music, a lot will change for the audience in the Netherlands in the near future.
