IND overhauls asylum processing — 54,000 pending applicants affected
The Dutch immigration service (IND) is changing how it handles asylum applications to shorten waiting times. New applications will be prioritised, so many people will receive a decision sooner.
However, part of a backlog of more than 54,000 people who applied before 12 June 2026 will have to wait longer. From 1 October the IND will start inviting the first group to be processed under the new procedure.
Applicants should keep their contact details up to date and watch for an invitation from the IND.
