Dutch government working on its own secure cloud
The Dutch government has begun designing its own 'sovereign cloud.' This is a digital system in which the government retains control over all stored data. The goal is to become less dependent on large foreign technology companies.
Currently, the government uses services from international companies, such as American cloud providers, for many digital tasks. This raises questions about the privacy and security of sensitive government information. With its own cloud, the Dutch state wants to guarantee that data remains secure and complies with strict European regulations.
The plan is for the cloud to run on data centers located in the Netherlands. These centers must be owned by the government or managed by the government. This gives the Dutch state full control over where the information is stored and who has access to it.
The project is still in the design phase. Experts are currently looking at how they can technically build and secure this system. It is a major step for the digitalization of the Dutch government, as it is intended to strengthen the protection of citizen data.
The government hopes this initiative will increase the digital independence of the Netherlands. More details regarding the implementation of this project and the timeline for further development will become clear in the near future.
