Dutch government builds its own cloud for secure data
The Dutch government is working on a plan for its own 'cloud'. This is a place on the internet where digital information is stored. The goal of this project is to store important government data more securely and independently.
Currently, many organizations and governments use services from large American companies, such as Microsoft or Google. However, the Dutch government wants to be less dependent on these foreign parties. With its own cloud, the state itself has control over exactly where the data is located and who has access to it.
Security and privacy are the main reasons for this new plan. The government wants to prevent other countries or commercial companies from gaining access to sensitive information of citizens. This new cloud will run on data centers owned by the Dutch state and managed by the government itself.
The project is currently still in the design phase. Experts are working on the technical details to see how the system should work in practice. Building such a proprietary network is a major step for the digital independence of the Netherlands.
In the future, this cloud should help the government work more efficiently and securely. The initiative shows that the Netherlands takes digital security very seriously. This is necessary in a world where almost all important information is processed digitally.
