FIOD investigates potential corruption among cardiologists in Amsterdam and Nijmegen
The FIOD, the Dutch investigative service for fiscal offenses, has launched a major investigation into a group of cardiologists. The investigation focuses on potential corruption among doctors working at the OLVG in Amsterdam and the CWZ in Nijmegen.
The investigative service has since seized the homes and other properties of at least six cardiologists. This means that the doctors involved may not dispose of their assets for the time being while the FIOD continues its investigation. The seizure is a standard measure to prevent assets from disappearing during a criminal investigation.
The hospitals OLVG and CWZ have stated that they are cooperating fully with the FIOD's investigation. The hospitals emphasize that patient care is currently continuing as normal. It is still unclear what the precise suspicions against the cardiologists are, as the investigation is in an early stage.
The Public Prosecution Service has not yet shared further details regarding the nature of the corruption. The investigation into the cardiologists will continue in the coming period to determine whether criminal offenses have actually been committed.
