Dutch national team receives FIFA Fair Play Award
The Dutch national team has won a special award following the conclusion of the World Cup. World football governing body FIFA has named the Oranje the winner of the Fair Play Award. This serves as a nice consolation prize for the team, shortly after they lost the tournament final to Spain.
FIFA presents this award to the team that displayed the most sportsmanlike conduct during the tournament. The assessment is based on various factors, such as the number of yellow and red cards, respect for the referee, and the behavior of the players both on and off the pitch.
Although the disappointment of missing out on the world title was significant, the recognition for their sportsmanlike conduct provides a positive conclusion to the tournament. The award highlights that the team presented itself to the world in a professional and respectful manner.
In addition to the honor, the KNVB will receive a cash prize and a certificate for this achievement. The association has stated that it is proud of the players and the technical staff for the way they represented the Netherlands during this international event.
