The battle for the cloud market: AWS, Azure, and Google continue to grow
The global cloud services market continues to grow at a rapid pace. Major tech companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are competing for the favor of businesses that want to store their data and applications online. Although the market has seemed stable for years, the latest figures show that the relative proportions are slowly changing.
At the moment, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is still the largest player with a market share of 28 percent. Microsoft Azure follows in second place with 21 percent, while Google Cloud has a share of 14 percent. Together, these three companies dominate the vast majority of the global cloud infrastructure.
However, the growth figures tell a different story than the current market shares. Microsoft Azure has recently shown strong growth, narrowing the gap with market leader AWS. Google Cloud is also continuing to grow and is gaining ground in a market that is becoming increasingly important for both small and large organizations.
For Dutch companies, this development is relevant because they are often dependent on these three American providers for their digital infrastructure. The competition between these parties can lead to better prices and new technological possibilities for users in the Netherlands.
It is expected that this battle will intensify even further in 2026. While AWS tries to defend its position, Microsoft and Google are investing billions in new data centers and artificial intelligence to attract more customers.
