Driverless shared cars: the future of mobility in the Netherlands
The Dutch company MyWheels has ambitious plans for the future of car usage. They aim to be the first in the Netherlands to introduce shared cars that drive completely autonomously, without a driver behind the wheel. This concept is intended to make traveling in cities easier and more efficient.
The idea is simple: you order a car via a special app on your phone. The car then drives autonomously to your front door to pick you up. As soon as you arrive at your destination and get out, the car drives itself to the next user who has requested a ride.
According to MyWheels, this development is happening faster than many people expect. The company believes that self-driving technology will play a major role in reducing the number of cars on the street. Because cars are constantly in motion and not parked, less parking space will be needed in busy Dutch cities.
However, there are still challenges. Legislation regarding self-driving vehicles is strict, and the technology must be one hundred percent safe before it can be allowed on public roads. The government and manufacturers are working closely together to see how this can be implemented safely.
If this project succeeds, it could completely change the way we get around in the Netherlands. Owning a private car would then become less necessary for many people, because a self-driving shared car would always be available whenever needed.
