Hundreds of people cycle for women's safety

Last weekend, hundreds of people took action for the safety of women on the streets. Special cycling tours were organized in various Dutch cities to draw attention to this issue. Through this, participants want to show that everyone should be able to travel safely, regardless of the time or location.

In Amsterdam, about 150 people took part in the cycling tour. Among them were at least 25 men who wanted to show their support. The event was organized by the well-known activist group Dolle Mina. In addition to the capital, similar actions took place in other cities, with a total of another 125 people participating.

The reason for the actions is a series of recent incidents in which women felt unsafe or became victims of harassment. Participants in the cycling tours believe that there should be more focus on prevention and safety in public spaces. By cycling together, they want to send a powerful signal to society and politicians.

The organization looks back on the turnout with satisfaction. The fact that many men also participated is seen by Dolle Mina as a positive development. It shows that safety on the streets is a subject that concerns the whole of society, not just women.

It is not yet known whether more of these cycling tours will be organized in the future. For now, the activists hope that their protest has contributed to greater awareness regarding the safety of women in the Netherlands.
