The Netherlands reaches limit of direct military support to Ukraine
The Dutch government has announced that the limit for direct military aid to Ukraine has been reached. For a long time, the Netherlands has been sending weapons and equipment to the country to assist in the war against Russia. Now, the government says that at this moment, no more can be supplied directly from its own stocks.
A significant part of this aid consists of Patriot missiles. These are advanced systems used to shoot down aircraft and missiles. Ukraine has a great need for these to protect cities and key buildings. The Netherlands has already sent many of these missiles in the past, but can no longer spare any additional units.
The reason for this decision is related to the Netherlands' own security. The government must ensure that the Dutch military itself retains enough equipment to defend its own country and NATO territory. If the Netherlands were to give away even more missiles and weapons, its own defense could become too weak.
Although direct deliveries from stock are now stopping, this does not mean that support for Ukraine is ending entirely. The Netherlands continues to look for other ways to help. This could include, for example, purchasing new equipment from factories together with other countries, or providing training to Ukrainian soldiers. The Dutch government emphasizes that support for Ukraine remains important for stability in Europe.
