Defence Now Has the Most Job Vacancies in the Netherlands
The Dutch Ministry of Defence is the largest poster of job vacancies in our country this year. For the first time in a long while, it is not a supermarket chain but the armed forces at the top of the list. In 2025, Defence has already posted more than 13,000 vacancies online to find new personnel.
For years, Albert Heijn was the organization with the most job openings in the Netherlands. The well-known supermarket chain always needs many people for its stores and distribution centers. However, due to the current global situation and new investments, Defence now needs more people than ever before.
The vacancies at Defence are very diverse. It is not just about soldiers going on missions. The organization is also looking for many technicians, IT specialists, logistics workers, and medical personnel. There is, therefore, work for people with many different backgrounds and educations, making the armed forces an attractive employer for a broad group of people.
This change shows that priorities in the Netherlands are shifting. The government is currently investing heavily in the country's security. To carry out all the new plans and tasks, thousands of extra hands are needed. This creates a major challenge in the labor market, as there is already a shortage of personnel in many other sectors.
