Number of fast-food outlets in the Netherlands nearly doubled
The number of fast-food outlets in the Netherlands has risen significantly in recent years. Recent figures show that at the beginning of 2026, there were a total of 19,400 establishments where one can quickly pick up or consume a meal.
This development shows striking growth compared to the past. In 2007, there were only about half this number of such establishments to be found in our country. The sector has therefore nearly doubled in nearly twenty years.
The increase in fast-food outlets is visible in both large cities and smaller municipalities. Consumers are increasingly opting for the convenience of a quick bite, which has led to a larger supply of snack bars, fast-food chains, and other takeaway restaurants.
Whether this growth will continue in the future remains to be seen. For now, the popularity of fast food in the Netherlands remains undiminished, which is causing a lasting change in the Dutch streetscape and the eating habits of many residents.
