New manifesto aims to make digitalization in the Netherlands more sustainable
The Dutch Coalition for Sustainable Digitalization (NCDD) and industry association NLdigital have presented a new manifesto for the 2027-2030 period. The goal of this plan is to make the digital sector in the Netherlands more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. With this, the organizations aim to set a clear course for both businesses and the government.
The digital world is growing rapidly, but this also brings with it a high demand for energy and raw materials. The manifesto therefore focuses on reducing the ecological footprint of data centers, networks, and equipment. According to the initiators, it is essential that the growth of digitalization in the Netherlands goes hand in hand with climate goals.
The document contains concrete agreements on using hardware more efficiently and stimulating a circular economy. Companies are called upon to use equipment for longer periods and to recycle better. In addition, there is a focus on using green energy for digital infrastructure, so that the sector becomes less dependent on fossil fuels.
This initiative is relevant for both the business market and Dutch society. Now that more and more services are moving online, the impact of digital technology on the environment has become an important social issue. The manifesto is intended to ensure that the Netherlands remains a leader in innovation without losing sight of the environment.
In the coming years, the NCDD and NLdigital will work together with various partners to achieve the goals set out in the manifesto. The success of this plan depends on the commitment of both the government and the private sector. The coming period will show what concrete steps are taken to make the digital future of the Netherlands greener.
