Tesla brings new Powerwall home battery to the Netherlands

Tesla has announced that the latest version of the Powerwall, a home battery, is now officially available in the Netherlands. This device allows households to store self-generated solar energy for times when the sun is not shining. It is the first time Tesla has offered a 3-phase model, which better aligns with the electrical installations in many Dutch homes.

The new home battery has a storage capacity of 13.5 kilowatt-hours. With this amount of energy, an average family can bridge a large part of the evening and night without using power from the electricity grid. This is particularly interesting now that the rules for feeding power back into the grid are changing and the net metering scheme may be phased out in the future.

The price for the system starts at 7,800 euros, excluding installation costs. Interested parties should account for additional expenses for a certified installer to safely connect the device to the fuse box. Tesla emphasizes that the system is fully controlled via an app, which allows users to monitor and optimize their energy consumption in real-time.

The arrival of this battery on the Dutch market is an important step in the energy transition. By storing energy locally, the electricity grid is less heavily burdened. Experts expect that the demand for such storage systems will increase in the coming years as more households opt for a combination of solar panels, heat pumps, and electric cars.
