China dominates globally in the field of critical technologies
A recent study on current global technological power reveals striking figures. Of the 74 most important technologies today, no fewer than 69 are dominated by China. This means that the country has a massive lead over the rest of the world in terms of innovation and research.
The United States accounts for the remaining technologies. While China and the US compete for the top position, the role of other countries is often limited. The Netherlands also plays only a supporting role in this major international field of power, despite our country's strong position in specific sectors such as the chip machine industry.
The study focuses on technologies that are crucial for the future, such as artificial intelligence, defense, and green energy. China's dominance in these areas raises questions about the future dependence of other countries on Chinese technology and expertise.
Although the Netherlands leads in only one of the 74 technologies studied, the country remains an important player in the European technological market. Experts emphasize that cooperation within Europe is essential to reduce the technological gap with the global powers in the future.
