NVWA seizes nearly two thousand animals in South Holland
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) carried out a major operation in the province of South Holland on Thursday. During an inspection, the organization seized a massive number of animals. It concerns a location where the living conditions for the animals were not good.
The seizure figures are impressive. The NVWA took a total of 1,800 rabbits and 127 dogs. Among the dogs were dozens of young puppies. The inspectors decided to intervene immediately because the care and housing of the animals did not meet the legal requirements for animal welfare.
The animals have since been transferred to a safe and secret location. At this address, they receive the necessary care and medical assistance from specialists. The NVWA's goal is to ensure that the animals become healthy again and can stay in a clean, safe environment.
It is currently not yet clear what the consequences will be for the owner of the animals. In such situations, an official report or a heavy fine often follows. The NVWA is continuing the investigation into the situation at the location in South Holland to uncover all the facts.
This action shows that animal welfare monitoring in the Netherlands is taken very seriously. The NVWA regularly carries out inspections of breeders and traders to prevent neglect. For many Dutch people, the protection of animals is an important social issue.
