Arrest after chain lock attack & more
Police have arrested a suspect for an act of violence following the football match between the Netherlands and Morocco. Additionally, a man has been apprehended in the Northern Netherlands for a double murder in Turkey, and the RIVM proposes to structurally measure chemical substances in the bodies of residents.
A 20-year-old Amsterdam resident has been arrested on suspicion of attempted manslaughter with a chain lock. The attack took place after the World Cup match in which Morocco defeated the Netherlands on penalties. In Amsterdam Nieuw-West, the result led to celebrations, but also to tensions and this specific violent incident.
In the north of the country, a man has been detained who is wanted for a double murder in the Turkish seaside resort of Alanya. The arrest already took place in April, but the suspicions surrounding the fatal shooting in Turkey have now come further into the news.
To better monitor public health, the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) advises the government to henceforth structurally measure which chemical substances Dutch people have in their bodies. According to the institute, there is currently insufficient insight into the amount of harmful substances that people ingest daily through their environment, making this new measurement proposal necessary.
