Achmea invests in new senior housing in Rotterdam
Insurance company Achmea has made a major investment in the Dutch housing market. The company has purchased a senior housing project from developer Sustay in Rotterdam. With this acquisition, Achmea aims to contribute to the shortage of suitable housing for the elderly in the city.
The project consists of modern apartments specifically designed for people over the age of 55. The homes are life-cycle proof, meaning that residents can continue to live there even if their health declines. This is an important development, as more and more elderly people in the Netherlands want to continue living independently for longer.
The demand for this type of housing is very high in Rotterdam. Many elderly people currently live in large single-family homes that have actually become too big. By moving to a smaller and more comfortable apartment, the larger homes in the city become available again for young families. This helps to improve the flow in the housing market.
Achmea indicates that it wants to invest more often in socially relevant projects. The company sees the construction of senior housing as a good way to relieve the pressure on the housing market. Construction of the homes in Rotterdam is expected to start soon, so that the first residents can move in some time from now.
