Growth companies in the Netherlands: will Amsterdam remain the center for success?
The Dutch economy is growing rapidly thanks to innovative companies, also known as 'scale-ups'. Recent research shows that many of these fast-growing enterprises are establishing themselves in the Randstad. Amsterdam, in particular, is very popular: nearly a third of the country's 250 fastest-growing companies have an office there.
The concentration of these companies in the capital is not surprising. Amsterdam offers many advantages for entrepreneurs, such as good accessibility, proximity to international airports, and a large pool of talent. Moreover, it is attractive for investors to visit promising companies in one single location.
Yet the question arises as to whether this trend will continue. Space in Amsterdam is limited and office rental prices are very high. As a result, some entrepreneurs are now looking at other cities. Regions such as Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Rotterdam are investing heavily in innovation hubs to become attractive to the next generation of growth companies.
Whether growth will spread more across the country in the future remains unclear. For now, Amsterdam remains the most important place for tech companies in the Netherlands. The coming years will show whether other cities can win the competition with the capital.
