Five New Zealanders missing following deadly floods in Nepal
Five New Zealand citizens remain missing after a devastating flash flood occurred at the border between Nepal and China. The incident has caused significant concern, as rescue operations continue in the difficult terrain of the Himalayan region.
Authorities report that the flooding was sudden and destructive, affecting a large number of people in the area. In total, 289 foreign nationals are currently unaccounted for following the disaster. Local emergency teams are working hard to locate those who have been caught in the floodwaters.
The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is currently working closely with international officials to gather more information about the missing citizens. They are in contact with local authorities in Nepal to provide support and monitor the situation as it develops.
This event has highlighted the dangers of travel in remote mountainous regions during extreme weather conditions. As the search and rescue mission continues, the government is advising New Zealanders currently in Nepal to follow the instructions of local emergency services and stay updated through official channels.
Further updates are expected as rescue teams gain better access to the affected areas. For now, the focus remains on the safety and recovery of all those missing in the region.
