Electric vehicle company urges government to create clear charging strategy
A New Zealand company specializing in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure is calling on the government to develop a more consistent strategy for the nation's charging network. Thundergrid, a firm that designs and installs chargers for commercial fleets, believes that clearer national guidelines are necessary to support the country's transition to sustainable transport.
Thundergrid focuses on providing engineering and installation services for businesses that are moving their vehicles to electric power. By working with commercial fleets, the company helps large organizations reduce their carbon footprint. However, they argue that the current lack of a unified government plan makes it difficult for businesses to invest in the necessary technology with confidence.
Recently, the company was acquired by a Swiss energy technology firm, highlighting the growing international interest in New Zealand’s green energy sector. Despite this investment, the company emphasizes that private sector efforts alone are not enough. They suggest that the government needs to provide a clear roadmap to ensure that charging stations are located where they are needed most.
As more New Zealanders and businesses consider switching to electric vehicles, the demand for reliable charging infrastructure continues to rise. Industry experts agree that a well-planned network is essential to reduce 'range anxiety' and encourage more people to move away from petrol-powered cars.
In conclusion, the call from Thundergrid highlights a common concern among energy businesses in New Zealand. By establishing a clear national strategy, the government could help businesses and individuals feel more secure about investing in an electric future.
