Chinese cars are taking a larger share of the Norwegian market
Norway stands out in Europe when it comes to the sale of new cars from China. New figures show that Chinese car brands are growing rapidly, and in June, these cars accounted for 16 percent of new car sales in Norway.
This figure is significantly higher than in many other European countries. By comparison, the share of Chinese cars is only 4 percent in Germany and 5 percent in France. Norway is thus the country in Europe where Chinese car manufacturers are having the greatest success.
Experts point out that the Norwegian focus on electric vehicles has made it easier for new players to enter the market. Many of the Chinese cars sold in Norway are electric, which fits well with the Norwegian policy of phasing out cars with gasoline and diesel engines.
The development in Norway follows a global trend where Chinese car manufacturers are investing more aggressively outside their home market. It remains to be seen whether this growth will continue at the same pace in the coming months, or whether other European countries will follow the Norwegian trend.
