Enova grants millions to new technology for green shipping
The company H2SITE has received 39.1 million kroner in funding from Enova. The funds will be used to develop a new technology that makes it possible to convert ammonia into hydrogen directly on board ships.
The project, which goes by the name HydraNord Power, aims to make maritime transport more environmentally friendly. By converting ammonia into high-purity hydrogen on board, ships can use hydrogen as fuel without requiring large storage tanks for the gas. This is an important solution for reducing emissions from commercial shipping.
The technology is planned to produce up to one ton of hydrogen per day. This will make it easier for large vessels to transition from fossil fuels to emission-free alternatives. The use of ammonia as an energy carrier is seen as a promising path toward reaching climate goals in the Norwegian maritime sector.
The support from Enova is part of the effort to promote new technology that can cut greenhouse gas emissions. The project is expected to provide valuable experience on how ammonia can be used safely and efficiently as an energy source at sea.
With this investment, Norway is taking another step toward greener shipping. The development of HydraNord Power could become an important piece of the green transition for both Norwegian and international shipping companies in the years to come.
