Freia to keep the traditional Kong Haakon chocolates
The well-known "Kong Haakon" chocolate box will continue to be produced by Freia. The confectionery has a long history in Norway, and many Norwegians associate the box with Christmas and special occasions.
The chocolate was launched for the first time in 1905. This was the same year that Norway gained its own king following the dissolution of the union with Sweden, and the product was created to mark the fact that Norway had become an independent country.
The name of the confectionery is linked to the Norwegian royal family. Although there have been discussions about the brand in connection with successions to the throne, it has now been confirmed that Freia will continue with the traditional production.
The Kong Haakon chocolates therefore remain an important part of Norwegian food culture. For many consumers, the box is a symbol of both Norwegian history and Norwegian traditions that are passed on to new generations.
