Overhalla selected for new health project for the elderly
Overhalla municipality has been selected as one of the few municipalities in Norway to participate in a new pilot project. The project is owned by the Norwegian Directorate of Health and is run in collaboration with the Norwegian National Centre for Ageing and Health.
The background for this initiative is the so-called "elderly wave," which means that there are an increasing number of elderly people in the population. This creates new challenges for the healthcare system in Norwegian municipalities, which must find sustainable solutions for the future.
In the project, the municipality will test new working methods. A central message of the initiative is that citizens must take greater responsibility for their own health. The goal is for the elderly to be able to live at home longer and maintain a good quality of life through preventive measures.
The experiences from Overhalla will provide important knowledge for the authorities. If the project yields good results, the methods tested here could be introduced in other municipalities across the country in the years to come.
