Digital competence in healthcare depends on age and support
Digital technology has become a central part of everyday life in Norwegian health and social services. The use of digital tools significantly influences how healthcare personnel document patient information, communicate with each other, and perform their daily work.
A new study shows, however, that digital competence among employees varies significantly. There are major differences based on factors such as age, how often an individual uses the technology, and the training provided in the workplace.
The results suggest that organizational support is crucial for how employees master digital systems. When employers facilitate good training and provide enough time to learn new tools, it becomes easier for healthcare personnel to adopt the technology in an effective manner.
For the health service to function optimally, it is important that all employees feel confident with the digital solutions being used. Increased focus on competence development can contribute to better collaboration and a safer everyday life for both patients and employees throughout Norway.
