Digital competence among healthcare personnel varies greatly
Digital technology has become a central part of the Norwegian healthcare system. Today, healthcare personnel use digital tools for everything from documenting patient records to communicating with colleagues and patients.
A new survey, however, shows that there are significant differences in how proficient employees are at using this technology. Competence varies depending on factors such as age, how often the technology is used in everyday life, and the support employees receive from their workplace.
The results suggest that younger employees often feel more confident with digital solutions than their older colleagues. At the same time, the study shows that technical experience alone is not enough; access to training and organizational support is crucial for healthcare personnel to be able to perform their jobs effectively.
For healthcare services to function optimally, it is important that all employees have the required competence. The challenge moving forward will be to ensure that all healthcare institutions offer sufficiently good courses and technical assistance, so that the digital workday becomes easier for both employees and patients.
