Volvo tests new electric excavator in Norway
Volvo Construction Equipment has started testing its very first electric excavator of the EC500 model in Norway. This is an important step toward making the construction industry more environmentally friendly and reducing emissions from large construction machinery.
The new machine stands out by being equipped with a special cable reel. This allows the excavator to operate while connected directly to the power grid. In addition, the machine has a built-in battery system that provides extra flexibility in its operation.
By using electricity instead of diesel, contractors can reduce both noise and greenhouse gas emissions at construction sites. Norway is a leading country when it comes to the electrification of transport and machinery, which makes it a natural place to test new technology.
Testing this machine is part of a larger initiative for emission-free solutions in the construction industry. If the test period yields good results, electric excavators could become a common sight at Norwegian construction sites in the years to come.
