Researchers investigate how drought affects Norway
Researchers at Forskning.no have started a new project to understand the consequences of drought in Norway. They want to take a closer look at how climate change is affecting our country by analyzing data from the last 18 years.
The project involves linking media reports from the period 2000 to 2018 with actual drought indices. By comparing what newspapers wrote about drought with actual measurements of water scarcity in nature, the researchers hope to get a better picture of how we experience and handle periods of drought.
Norway is often known for having a lot of rain, but drought can still create major challenges for agriculture, hydropower, and nature alike. By looking at historical data, the researchers can learn more about the consequences drought has had for Norwegian society in the past.
The results from this study could become important for how we prepare for the future. When we understand how drought affects us, it becomes easier to create effective plans to handle similar situations in the years to come.
