Economic challenges for Norwegian cycling
It is clear that the popular cycling race Tour of Norway is losing its regular funding from the national budget. This has caused reactions in the sports community, as the race has been an important arena for both Norwegian and international cyclists.
General Manager of the Arctic Race of Norway, Knut-Eirik Dybdal, expresses concern for the future of Norwegian cycling. He describes the loss of state support as a major blow to the sport. Without this funding, it will be more difficult to organize major cycling races in Norway moving forward.
For many years, the Tour of Norway has been one of the largest sporting events in the country. The race has helped showcase Norwegian nature and has served as an important recruitment arena for young talents. Many now fear that the cancellation of the race could lead to Norway losing its position as an attractive host for international races.
It is currently uncertain what the consequences will be for future editions of the race. The organizers must now consider whether it is possible to find other sources of funding to ensure that the race can continue in the years to come.
