Many companies lack control over their own use of artificial intelligence

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasing rapidly in the business world, and investments in so-called AI agents are expected to quadruple over the next two years. These are computer programs that can perform tasks independently, which can make many work processes more efficient.

Despite the great interest, a new survey from SAP shows that many companies lack control. Half of the companies surveyed admit that they do not have an overview of which AI agents are in use within their organization.

Experts point out that this can create challenges for security and privacy. When employees adopt new tools without management's knowledge, it becomes more difficult to ensure that company data is handled in a safe and legal manner.

Only 12 percent of companies believe they are fully prepared to manage and control the use of this technology. This suggests that many companies need to work more on internal guidelines and training in order to utilize the potential of AI in a responsible way.

The development is moving very fast, and it will be important for Norwegian leaders to gain better control over the technology being adopted. Having an overview is the first step toward being able to use artificial intelligence to create value without taking unnecessary risks.
