Helse Midt-Norge removes interest on loans to its own companies
The board of Helse Midt-Norge has made an important decision that will affect the finances of the health trusts in the region. Starting September 1, 2026, interest will no longer be charged on loans to the companies Hemit HF and Helseplattformen AS.
Helseplattformen has been a controversial project in Central Norway in recent years. By setting the interest rate to zero, the financial framework for how these companies fund their operations and development is being changed. This move is intended to provide the companies with more predictability during a challenging economic time.
The decision regarding the interest exemption means that Helse Midt-Norge is effectively subsidizing the loans to the two companies. Hemit HF is responsible for ICT services in the health region, while Helseplattformen AS is behind the new patient record system that has faced technical challenges following its implementation.
It is not yet known what consequences this will have for the health trust's total budget in the long term. The board will now work on implementing the new arrangement before it takes effect in two years' time.
